How to Install xapk?


When an app is not available on play store, we just search it on google to download it's apk file. But sometimes that apk file is not in the format of '.apk' but in the '.xapk' format and we thought we have downloaded wrong file, but you have not downloaded the wrong file, the method of its installation is different. So, in today's article we will learn how to install xapk file in your android mobile.

What is an XAPK File?

XAPK file is the combination of OBB+Apk. On google play store there is no such files as play store directly install the apk with obb file you do not need to download it separately. But the apps downloaded from third party websites requires obb file so that they can run successfully. So they packed the obb file and apk file in a format named '.apk'.

Difference XAPK file and APK file?

You can install the apk file directly with system package installer, but xapk file installation is not that simple. You have to follow the other steps to install it.

Steps to Install an XAPK File

In order to install xapk file you just need to follow some more steps for successful installation. Just follow the following steps:

1. Open the Downloads folder where the xapk is downloaded.

2. Now change the extension of file from '.xapk' to '.zip' so that is easy to extract it.

3. After that you just need to extract the files just long press on it and tap on extract button.

4. There will be three files - 1. Apk file 2. OBB file and a PNG file. So install the '.apk' file as you generally do, if it ask 'install from unknown source' allow it, but do not open the app.

5. Now you just need to move the obb file to Storage > Android > OBB folder. Now you can open the app and can enjoy.


If your device android version is above 10, it is difficult to move the obb file, but do not worry, I have a solution for it. Just use the any of the following file manager to move the file successfully :

  • Stock file manager or
  • Files by Google app.

Alternately,you can use third party apps like Zarchiver, file explorer etc.
